When the World Feels Heavy: How I’m Finding Strength to Keep Showing Up as a First-Gen Jefa

The world has been so loud + heavy with everything happening to our community + people on the streets of LA. As a native Angelino + someone who started my career in the political world, documenting many of the public figures we're seeing on the news today, my heart aches to see the pain that has hit our community.

If you have been struggling to show up for yourself + your business, I see you. I am you. Sending you the most fuerte abrazo + so much love.

Drowning out the noise has been so much harder than usual and due to what's going on, it's normal for us not to feel like working or simply have it be harder to focus on work when so much else is happening.

As Jefas, it's a fine line between having the privilege to pause + pivot with all that's happening AND additional pressure to find the will+way to keep going as many of us rely on our businesses to generate the income for our families + to continue moving forward.

As a PROUD daughter of immigrant parents, I honor their sacrifice + dream of coming to this country to provide a better life for me + my sisters to eventually pursue this dream of a business that they could have never imagined.. Getting to work with fellow Jefas around the world to build brands + businesses online, from the comfort of my home.

This creative pursuit of entrepreneurship isn't easy, pero I'm inspired by my grandparents who HUSTLED in every way possible to provide for their families + my parents who worked so hard to get me into a position where I can be a Jefa who defines my schedule, who I serve + how I serve them.

To think of how far we've come from the fields of Mexico + streets of El Salvador.

I'm so PROUD that I get to do what I love to provide for my family.

Early in the chaos, I was at a loss for words.

This song grounded me. I hope it grounds you too.

It's a privilege to pursue this dream. it's FAR from easy, pero worth every moment of hard work, stress, sweat + many tears.

For myself, before the chaos, I had set out a BIG goal.. scarier than last time..

I have many motivators behind this goal, pero here's a few I'd like to share now..

Your girl is moving at the end of the month(for the SECOND time in 4 months) aaaand moving ain't cheap, especially in SoCal.

I hope to generate the capital needed to pour back into the businesses, bring back the CCJ podcast + lock in the work needed to fill most of Q3 to assist with the transition.

Oh, and as a bonus, my husband + I are mid-soft-launching a new revenue stream (aka whole NEW brand + business) selling grilled protein packs for those looking for an easy solution for weeknight meals with high-quality protein that you can heat up + dress with your favorite sides or get creative each time without having to pull out a grill or start a fire just for grilled chicken on a Tuesday.. Check out Humo Con Sazon So yeah, that business is JUST getting started + raising more capital towards it allows for us to bring in a variety of proteins + more sauces to the menu as it expands.

Sooo.. there's quite a bit happening for your girl, which means I don't have the luxury to STOP. I MUST keep going. I must adapt + find a way to continue to show up for my business through this season that's just getting started.

So if you've been struggling, you're NOT alone.

As a community, many of us have come together to show up in different ways to support and I'm proud to say that Cafecito Con Jefas will continue to be a safe, space away from the noise for us to come together, feel supported + continue to pursue our entrepreneurial dreams JUNTAS.

Inside our Casita (our membership hosted in Circle.so), the Casita Leadership Team + I host over 35 virtual events each month for us to come together to connect +receive support.. from hyperfocus sessions (body-doubling for productivity), cafecitos where we get to just BE, book club, charlas en español, strategy calls + casita tours, there's something for everyone with varying schedules AND MORE is coming in the new quarter.

You can check out the different entry points we have now on how to join below, pero if you have ANY questions about this community membership, PLEASE don't hesitate to ask.

We are here to serve y'all + hope to remain a safe space to keep going, JUNTAS.

Pasito a pasito, pero p’alante. Las amo.

Con amor, Kita
